iPhone vs Instinct vs Dare

By

Never has competition been tougher, with the three most speculated electronic gizmo's of the year- the apple iPhone, samsung instinct and LG Dare out in the market all set to kill. And the toughest part comes in telling them apart with the two of them priced at an astoundingly low cost of $199 and one of them at $129 and with almost similar capabilities. The tight head-on competition makes it tough for consumers to choose among the three.

With the very limited differences between them, an unbiased in-depth comparison of them becomes very important. A promotion of a single product isn't the aim of this hub, but just a comparison as I'd prefer not to hurt the sentiments of any specific brand lovers. I can only give you the comparison, but what really matters is what the buyer wants.

LG Dare

Supported by the Verizon Wireless, the LG Dare comes loaded with a 3.2 megapixel camera and high quality video recording, has a pretty big 3 inch 240x400, 262k color touchscreen. It runs on a modifies OS similar to Verizon's LG Voyager. The camera becomes the highlighting feature with it recording 640x480 video at up-to 120 frames per second , 3.2 mega-pixel with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens. Like the iPhone, it has the accelerometer which changes the orientation of the display when you tilt the phone and is finger friendly. The touch screen is not multi-touch but it still is pretty responsive. Remember the fact that it isn't a smart phone n the web browser is relatively slow to render pages. The 3G phone is definitely desirable with its features.

Samsung Instinct

Exclusively from Sprint, the samsung Instinct has a 2.0 mega-pixel camera with 2 x digital zoom. It has a 3.1 inch 240x432 pixels and 262k color touchscreen with localized hap-tic feedback and GPS. It offers an industry-leading user experience by combining full touch screen functionality. Samsung Instinct provides easy access to Sprint exclusive multimedia content, business or personal email, GPS navigation, live and on-demand TV content, full song downloads, streaming radio and an impressive Web experience. It provides a new level of customization by allowing the user to access their favourite applications with a single touch. It offers visual voicemail, stereo Bluetooth® with audible caller ID, Sprint TV® with an extensive selection of live on-demand programming includiong Sprint entertainment video. Mobile Sync feature enables restoration of contact information if the device is lost, stolen or damage.

The absence of the accelerometer feature is conspicious beacuse of its presence in the iPhone and Dare. But with its pricing dropped to $129, this shortcoming never does come into the picture.

Apple iPhone 3G

Powered by AT&T, the apple iPhone has the biggest 3.5 inch 480x320 pixel display with multi-touch capabilities. The phone comes in 8 GB and 16 GB sizes neither with a removable memory card slot. The basic array of iphone applications hasn't changed much. there's the iPod, iTunes, Safari, Youtube Mail, calendar, photos, stocks, maps, weather etc. It gives a high quality web browsing experience. The 3G capability gives fast access to the Internet and email over the cellular network and makes it easier to multitask. The accelerometer feature makes the display orientation sensitive to any tilt.Built into the iPhone are two small but intelligent sensors that pick up cues from the environment and adjust the screen accordingly. These sensors both work to maximise the battery life and improve your iPhone experience. When you lift iPhone to your ear, the proximity sensor turns off the display to save power and prevent inadvertent touches.

The 2.0 mega-pixel camera is a bit disappointing with absolutely no settings options (including no video recording). Absence of multimedia messaging(MMS) is really disappointing not to mention the non replaceable battery.

Speed Test

Results of a little speed test showed that the Samsung Instinct data services seem to be jacked while with the LG Dare and Apple iPhone sqauaring off, and the LG Dare consistently besting the iPhone 3G by somewhere between 50-100kbps over Verizon's EV-DO network.

Although that doesn't necessarily say that the LG Dare is consistently faster than the Apple iPhone 3G or Samsung Instinct as it has everything to do with the network in the area, the circumstances, the time of the day and even maybe which side of the bed u fell out of this morning, or possibly how well charged the battery is , so nothing is really conclusive.

Battery Life Test

The iPhone 3G has a battery life of about five and a half hours for talk time, but less than three hours of web browsing time.Music playback is over ten hours with the loudspeaker. For a 3G phone, this is pretty good but if you browse a lot or use the GPS a lot, it'll die quickly.

Among the three, the LG Dare offers the best battery life with almost six hours of talk time and web browsing time.Music playback time was sixteen hours which is pretty impressive for a 3G phone.

The Samsung Instinct has the worst battery life among the three with about four and a half hours of talk time and barely three hours of web browsing time. Music browsing was much better at almost fourteen hours.

Important

The Samsung Instinct price have been dropped to an amazingly low cost of $129 after rebate. With all the features for such a low price, the competition gets too tough with the other two priced at $199. Again i don't intend to hurt brand lovers, myself being a crazy lover of the brand apple.

I just got the Blackberry Curve and personally I think that it blows all three of those away.  Those phones are great for fun stuff, like games and movies, whereas the Blackberry is business oriented, but also takes amazing pictures, with a wide screen movies and videos are great to view and sound quality is top notch.  Plus the full keyboard runs circles around the touchscreens, IMO.  Nice article very informative.

which model of curve are you talking abt bro?. the thing is, blackberry curve phones dont fall into this segment of 3G phones.

Blackberry is still king for business.

Nice review I'm in the market for a 3g phone, been a sprint customer for about 8 years and was seriously thinking of getting the iphone until sprint came out with the instinct, its still up in the air, doing more research this is good info. thanks again.

One thing to also keep in mind is the ongoing monthly cost (i.e. the plans available). Sprint's Simply Everything (Unlimited Calls) seems the best so far...every thing for $100. Verizon's "everything" plan for $140 has a couple of loop holes (one being limited voicemail--only 20 per month unless you are willing to pay more). ATT's plan is $130, no obvious hidden loop holes. Another interesting thing...if you pick a minute plan (450, 900, or 1350) with Verizon or ATT the "Unlimited Nights" are 9:00 PM - 6:00 AM. Sprint's "Unlimited Nights" are from 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM. With Sprint and it's "Unlimited Nights" range, you could almost pick their 900 minute plan for $10 less ($90) and do just as well.

paulthomas500 3 years ago

yeah u're right magician, the ongoing monthly cost is another important matter of concern. though the handsets may be cheap, their applications may be costly . a clean deception

i just got my phone two weeks ago i like the camra and the video the tv acts up a little but bussiness wise its a great phone it alerts you when you have text voice or emails messages also sprint came out with a new phone called diamond touch its like the instinct and the i phone put together

Iphone vs. instinct 3 years ago

Although the pricing of the instinct is very low, the iphonesquality is so much better. Plus the iphone acts as an ipod and has more powerful internet access. I don't mean to deminish the instincts popularity because yes, it is a great phone, but the iphone, to me, is the best choice you could make.

paulthomas500 3 years ago

Dear iPhone vs instinct, being a lover of apple products myself, i second your suggestion. Though the instinct may offer more features at a lower price than the iPhone, iPhone maintains strict quality for its products. It definitely will be worth the price. I happened to buy an LG product recently n to be frank, i'm absolutely dissppointed with it, it comes with some basic flaws in the user interface - thats when i realised the difference more.

I recently got an Instinct and I find fantastic to use and I find it better than the iPhone that I think still has a lot to live up to. Ive not had a Dare before but from what I've heard it is a good all round phone.
